
Julie Tirard (Aubagne, France) is a French playwright, poet, and literary translator. She is the author of several award-winning plays, including Jusqu’à ce que le mur tienne (Les Bras Nus, 2025) and La chouette Le cri, as well as the poetry collection Comme un univers mort / lointain / et toujours lumineux (Aencrages & co, 2025). Her play RING — J’aime aussi is currently in creation and will premiere in October 2026 under the direction of Nicolas Givran.
She has translated poets such as Eva Maria Leuenberger, Alice Notley, and Juana Bignozzi, as well as playwrights including Julia Haenni, Ivana Sokola, and Sivan Ben Yishai.
She regularly publishes articles and podcasts on literary translation. In 2024, she was a guest lecturer at the University of Hamburg, where she taught a seminar on feminist literary translation.
Her work as a writer and translator has been supported by institutions such as the Deutscher Übersetzerfonds, the Berlin Senate, the European Commission, and the French Ministry of Culture. She has been invited to festivals across Europe and, in May 2025, to the Buenos Aires Book Fair and the Buenos Aires International Poetry Festival.
She currently lives and works between France, Germany, and Chile. Some of her poems and plays have been translated into German and Spanish.
